General Health
So life is a drag, your general health is failing and you are tired of being sick and tired all the time. Your body is rebelling after suffering mistreatment over several years and you are run down with illness frequently occurring. Most disease is a result of poor diet and should be the first thing looked at as you endeavor to improve your overall wellness. For optimum health we need to consider diet, exercise, alcohol intake, smoking and stress. How we combine these factors will result in either good or bad health. Our usual behavior is to take a cavalier approach to what we know is right until that time when our general health breaks down and a lowered quality of life follows.
The secret of maintaining good health, is to ensure that the immune system is strong and virile and able to attack and defeat toxins and infectious agents that cause disease within the body. The Immune System will reflect what we put in our mouths, the exercise we perform and the thoughts we hold in our minds. The human body is an incredible instrument and if we give it the respect it deserves in these areas, it will repay us with good general health. If we find that we are suffering from recurring infections such as colds,sore throats,flu or earaches, herbs and vitamin supplements combined with a change in diet is strongly recommended. To increase the effectiveness of our Immune system, diet guidelines as follows should be adopted - Cut intake of white sugar and refined food.
Drink plenty of pure water - Use whole grains
- Reduce the intake of dairy products
- Eat more fresh fruit, vegetables and legumes.
Food needs to be fresh, natural, whole and simple. The nutritional value of much food we now eat is very low because of the refining and processing that takes place to ensure longer shelf life and more profit for the suppliers. For our general health to be enhanced, avoid degraded and polluted foods. It goes without saying, that exercise is also important and I have found that rapid walking is probably the best for me and easily followed. Also, I use the stairs where possible rather than taking the elevator and try to leave the car at home and walk instead for those shorter errands. Anything to remove stress, which is known to inhibit our Immune system, will help maintain good health. Many Doctors are now coming to the realization that our diets do not provide many of the essential vitamins necessary to keep our bodies functioning well. Our food is deficient in calcium, magnesium, zinc and manganese. Without zinc our immune system is compromised and to stay healthy, vitamin supplements are essential for the addition of important vitamins and trace elements.
